MORE INFO / RELATED STORY: JOSEPH STALIN 1879-1953 Joseph Stalin was the dictator of the Soviet Union for nearly a quarter of a century. His rule is infamous for his use of police terror and the frequent mass murders of his own people. Georgian Marxist revolutionary and later virtual dictator of the USSR 1928-53, born in Gori, C Georgia, the son of a cobbler and ex-serf.
